~ After the solar storm subsides, an exhausted Jim Hawkins has trouble sleeping. As always happens during these moments, he begins to have an unpleasant flashback....
Five year old Jim stumbled down the stairs to the main floor of the Hawkins household. Yelling had woken him. Dad must've come home in the night.
"What are you doing with your spacebag? Please tell me you're not leaving?"
"Sarah, not now. I've got a contract wi-"
"Leland, Jim's birthday is tomorrow, and you promised him you'd be home! He's going to be crushed when he finds out you lied to him." Jim was groggy, but he still remembered the pleading look on his mother's face. "Please, Leland. Can't it wait one -"
"Sarah, enough! I can't help that these things come up. I'm not staying, and you're wimpering isn't going to change it." Jim watched in slight awe as his father went into a small tirade."I always told you I wasn't the fathering type, so don't start crying at me now for not sticking around! I never even wanted a kid, and you knew it!"
"Mom?"
~The flashback fades into the neglected corners of Jim's mind as sweet slumber takes ahold of him. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
This is my entry for Deleted Scenes Contest. As it says at the beginning of the description, this takes place after the solar storm in the film. I picture the death of Mr. Arrow to be mostly to blame for Jim's troubled thoughts. The scene takes place at the end of the dialogue.
Note! I am not a writer, so please judge this on the art, not the writing! I just needed the description to complete it.
So, now all of my watchers know why they haven't gotten answered in the last couple days. I had to get my butt in gear for this, and not a moment too soon - the deadline's tomorrow.
This is by far the most ambitious project I've done at all, much less on my tablet. I am very pleased with how it turned out! (Especially the background, considering they terrify me.) I used references taken from my dvd for the entire thing. I changed up a picture of Jim to look like how I picture his dad looking.

He looks a little older than 5, maybe 8? Well, anyway, I like the story ^^ The day his father left he was still sleeping ans had time enough just to see him going out of the house. But anyway, it is a "deleted scene", so I love it ^^ I adore how you pictured Jim's dad, very close! And the background is great! Did you have luck in the contest?
Thank so much! The reference I used for Jim was from when he was about 8, I think, so that makes sense, lol. And this scene wasn't meant to be the time Mr. Hawkins abandoned his family. I always imagined there were a lot of long voyages away from home leading up to that. Thank you so much! The portrayal of Mr. Hawkins was actually not very imaginative, since I just took a picture of Jim and changed a few things. The background was indeed a breakthrough for me.
I believe I got 2nd place for this drawing. Thank you so much for checking it out, my frined!
What the... this is perfect! I love how Jims dad looks just like him! And the story works for me so much and the writing was pretty good. This was my favorite Disney movie when it came out and I still love it to death.
